Return to the “Old Normal?”  In “Goblin-Mode” or “Barbiecore?”

After years of upheaval related to the global pandemic, employees who adjusted their whole lives to continue their work from home, are now being asked to return to the employer’s office.   Some employers seem to be promoting an ethic of “returning” or “going back” to normal.  While the popular media highlights how regular employees’ lives and attitudes have changed.  Just look to terms like “goblin-mode,” Oxford’s 2022 Word of the year describing the unapologetically self-indulgent, restorative comfort-seeking.   Even cultural icons such as Barbie have had a self-reflective makeover.
